Generation X Core Pin Grinding System

Recently added to the GX portfolio, the Generation X Core Pin Grinding System boasts
remarkable efficiency, completing core pin grinding tasks in just one-third of the time compared to current production methods. Leveraging a dual grinding wheel system, the primary wheel rapidly reduces core pin diameters, achieving incredible speed with measurements in multiple thousands per second across a 3” width. Subsequently, the secondary grinding wheel meticulously refines the most intricate forms of the part with micron-level accuracy. The standard machine package includes 3-axis of motion, with the capability of expanding to a total of 9-axis, enabling versatility to handle even the most complex part geometries with ease.

Over the years, the Generation X system has undergone significant evolution, culminating in its current 9-axis version capable of grinding various part geometries, including guidewires, fiber posts, endodontic files for the dental industry, and now core pins.

While excelling in grinding small diameter parts has always been its forte, the recent utilization of its 12” diameter 3” wide superabrasive wheel has proven highly effective in grinding core pins.

Traditionally ground on OD grinders, Ded-true systems, or more costly alternatives, our platform offers exceptional flexibility, ease of programming, swift results, and precise micron tolerances. Employing a two-wheel grinding solution, we utilize both superabrasive wheels or a combination of conventional abrasives and CBN for grinding core pins.

The small diameter grinding capability traces back to Royal Master’s roots in the 1960s when we ground cat gut sutures for the medical device industry. With the introduction of an insert work rest blade, we quickly expanded into grinding simple angioplasty wires. This journey progressed to the inception of the first generation of CNC guidewire grinders in 1983, leading up to the 6th Generation, which we’ve aptly named the GX. Throughout these nearly 40 years, billions of guidewires have been manufactured for non-invasive heart operations and various other medical procedures. With over 250 units shipped worldwide, the GX makes some of the most intricate ground parts in the world.
